The most effective robot hoover will mop and vacuum without needing your attention. It will leave your floors clean. Its surprisingly affordable price and high-end features (such as dirt detection) are a plus.

Examine your robot's brush regularly for tangled debris and hair. Clean them as needed. Some models will also empty the onboard dustbin and deposit it in a larger bin located at the base. This reduces the amount fine dust that is released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've tested. They are equipped with top-of-the-line motors which can produce up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. And, like other premium iRobot models (including the top choice), they use intelligent mapping technology to create detailed floor plans and avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. The robots also have the feature of Carpet Boost which boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests on bare floors, and they are particularly adept at cleaning dog hair. However, they have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the flaws of the Q5 is that its navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to getting stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't come with cameras that let it see the corners of the room.

However, it's a good choice, especially if you want to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a bare-floored home or office. Additionally, it's quiet and can work while you're at work or at school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does have self-emptying docks, however. And, if you need to change the mopping pad for a dry one in minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can mop floors. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it quick to clean and effective at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also comes with strong suction and an automatic bin for emptying. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, although it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This highly efficient combination vacuum and mop uses advanced sensor technology to avoid obstacles and pet waste and it learns your home's layout over time for more efficient cleaning. You can alter its cleaning schedule and set up zones with the well-designed app. It has a battery life that is similar to other models.

You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when in a carpeted area which prevents cross-contamination. Its flex arm is ideal for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. However, it's not equipped with the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop that could complete an entire house, finishing with 66 percent of its battery left. It also did an excellent job cleaning a range of rooms and floors with different flooring types, including certain area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top notch and it swiftly eluded fake dog socks, turds, and bundles of cables.

It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming this feature, which hasn't been seen in other robot vacuum/mop combinations.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

This mop and vacuum combination has a sleek, circular design that appears much like a Roomba model than the boxy models from the competitors. It is one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums.  updated blog post  from iRobot is also its smartest. It features advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop to score an exemplary 10/10 in our testing due to a mix of high-tech sensors that include a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully self-refill and empty its base station, and it has an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to use. It comes with an intuitive mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This could be a concern in the mornings before work or during the night when you are trying to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive, though it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are similarly capable and look better. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's extremely powerful however, it will cost you more and make more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot vacuum and mop. It comes with a variety of advanced features that will make you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take care of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot employs an array of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and identify obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its top rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, though this wasn't foolproof in our tests and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner comes with a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to complete the task. It also comes with an attribute known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for various areas of the house depending on how dirty those areas tend to be.

For larger houses, it's worth opting for models that has zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a particular area of your house by using the app or via voice commands. A stair mode can be useful if you own a number of furniture. Additionally the recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you'd expect from its price tag. It's a pro at vacuuming, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using one pad and a reciprocating movement that is more efficient than most of the robot mop cleaners that we've examined. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying base that can be washed.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through a mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or to create the spot-cleaning. You can also use it to rank your most filthy areas for greater efficiency. The app has a range of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it is able to reach corners and under furniture more easily. It also has a powerful suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and less expensive alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like adorable eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, but it's more likely to get caught on low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums we have test. It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
